HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – If anything is to be done with the James DeYoung Plant, it won’t be done in haste.
That was the sentiment during last night’s joint discussions between the Holland City Council, the board of the Holland Board of Public Works, and staffers for both city government and the municipal utility. The 77-year-old facility that provided electricity to the immediate Holland area is in the process of decommissioning after the Holland Energy Park near the Eastern Gateway went into full operation this year, and those attending the session at Holland City Hall talked about the process for determining what to do with the site off of Pine Avenue that sits along the eastern shore of Lake Macatawa.
While no decision was made, a general consensus was that a steering committee made up of various community members should be created to “shepherd” the development process, according to BPW General Manager Dave Koster. The matter will be revisited by both Council and the utility next month.
