GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Sentencing for a 41-year-old Holland Township man who didn’t contest charges stemming from a fatal crash near Zeeland this past January has been pushed back to December 18th.
Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing called for the delay on Monday morning after receiving a letter over this past weekend claiming that Cameron Burrows had been involved in an earlier snowmobile crash that led to the death of a child. He called this “significant information” that he wanted to deliberate further on before rending a decision.
In October, Burrows pleaded no contest to reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing serious impairment counts, and as a four-time habitual offender, he could receive up to 30 years in prison and a fine of 50 thousand dollars. He was accused of traveling 70 miles per hour on eastbound Business 196 when his pick up truck went through a red light on 104th Avenue and slammed into the northbound crossing vehicle of 65-year-old Sandra Kay DeBoer of Zeeland, killing her instantly, and seriously injuring her 10-year-old grandson seated beside her.
According to several reports, Burrows has a lengthy driving and criminal record stemming more than 20 years. He remains held without bond in the Ottawa County Jail.
