ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Zeeland Public School band program is proud to have been selected as a site for the 2017 Harvey Phillips TUBACHRISTMAS.
MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS is celebrating its 44th Anniversary this year. Created by Harvey Phillips, MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS 2017 concerts will be presented in over 300 cities throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. Phillips was inspired to create TUBACHRISTMAS as an annual event honoring his mentor/teacher, the late great tubist William J. Bell (born Christmas Day, 1902.)
Every Christmas season, tuba and euphonium players of all ages, from specific geographic areas, gather to pay respect – through William J. Bell – to all the great artists/teachers who represent their heritage.
The Zeeland Public School band program is proud to have been selected as a site for the 2017 Harvey Phillips TUBACHRISTMAS, which will take place on Monday, November 27 in downtown Zeeland at 5:45 p.m. The concert will be held at the Splash Pad, just outside the area where the community Christmas tree is located.
Tuba and baritone/euphonium players from the area are welcome and encouraged to join the group on the 27th. Those who have participated in past concerts and already have the TubaChristmas book may register for a $10.00 fee; purchasing the book is an additional $20.00. The same book is used at all TubaChristmas events each year. All proceeds go to the Harvey Phillips Foundation to encourage more concerts and more tuba-specific compositions.
Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. in the band room at Cityside Middle School. Rehearsal will begin at 5:00 p.m. for about 30 minutes. There is no need to pre-register, though interested community members may contact Mr. Walker at kwalker@zps.org for more information.
