HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Are churches are preparing for active shooter situations with a program offered by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The program is designed to help clergy and church members how to keep their eyes out for threats, get away from threats, and how to defend themselves. It’s being led by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Derek Christensen and the plan can also be used for other emergencies like fires and severe weather as well. He says it’s better to be safe than sorry following Sunday’s church shooting in Texas.
“We need to think about the what if’s. If something tragic like this happens.”
Grace Community Church in Hudsonville has received the training and Lead Pastor Christopher Hemmeric says it has united church members.
“It’s brought in a whole segment of people with gifts, skills and passions into service life of the church that previously didn’t see an outlet for that.”
The plan can also be used for other emergencies like fires and severe weather as well.
