HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Community Action House of Holland is providing Thanksgiving Baskets for over 1,000 families in the area.
Community Action House’s annual Thanksgiving Basket tradition is part of a larger program that aims to relieve the effects of food insecurity and hunger. Monthly Food Distribution happens 12 times a year, and provided more than 4,000 people with food last year, an increase of 20% over the prior year. About 300,000 meals are provided through annually across all of CAH’s hunger relief efforts.
Baskets are available to those residing within zip codes 49423, 49424, 49460 with proof of identification and address. Pre-registrations greatly help their ability to prepare adequately for this service, accepted through November 10th. As of October 17th, 152 households have already pre-registered which represent about 395 individuals.
The baskets will include a full-size turkey and fixings for families to prepare at home. Baskets will be distributed at their offices located at 345 W 14th St. on Monday and Tuesday, November 20th and 21st.
For those seeking to serve the community this season or assist Community Action House in this and other efforts, there are several options:
- Schools, churches, business, and organizations are invited to host Holiday Donation Drives, with a focus this year on personal care needs alongside non-perishable food items. Household items such as toilet paper, dish soap, & laundry detergent are not covered by food stamps, but remain a need for family health and personal dignity.
- Donate Thanksgiving-specific items – contact CAH for a list of items.
- Financial Gifts support all of CAH’s community efforts, including hunger-relief, homebuyer-education, and the Community Kitchen. $1 provides a personal care item like laundry soap or deodorant, $25 provides 25 meals, and $3,000 underwrites one of our housing and education workshops.
- Volunteer – groups and individuals are invited to serve at upcoming Thanksgiving-style Monthly Food Distributions later in the year._
