ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There have been three reported sexual assaults on the campus of Grand Valley State University (GVSU) since August.
Students at GVSU have voiced their concerns that they may be becoming desensitized to the recent reports of sexual assault. Sophomore Quinten Reid says it’s scary, but something the students are becoming used to.
“It seems like we get these emails all the time and they are never followed up on or re-addressed. They just kind of like happen and they are never brought up again. I mean I don;’t know if that’s who the administration chooses to handle it or if they never find any of these people, but it’s just kind of unsettling.” The most recent assault occurred Saturday near the Lodges apartments.
Captain Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department it does not appear that there are more sexual assaults and that maybe people are more comfortable reporting them than in the past.
