HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Nominations for the 2017 Social Justice Awards are now being accepted in the City of Holland.
The City of Holland Human Relations Commission awards individuals who exemplify the virtues of social justice by promoting equal opportunity and equal access for all citizens in the categories of Housing, Education, Employment, and Government/Community Relations.
The recipient of the 2016 Social Justice Award went to Spartan Nash/Family Fare Supermarkets for their commitment to employ and offer employment opportunities to veterans and persons with disabilities. The Social Justice Award also has a student/youth category for students ages 13 to 19. The recipient of the Youth 2016 Social Justice Awards went to Jesse Lynn, a senior at West Ottawa High School. Lynn was responsible for organizing a peaceful protest in November at Centennial Park.
To nominate a person, program, agency, business or employer, a letter with supporting information should be submitted indicating the award category. Nomination forms can be found at the City’s Human Relations website. Each letter should address the following: (1) Description of the involvement and or services provided to a diverse population; (2) Statement on how diversity is valued and demonstrated; and (3) List of involvement with programs and activities promoting equal opportunity and social justice.
The deadline for submitting nominations is Wednesday November 15, 2017. Mail your nomination to the Human Relations Department, City Hall, 270 S. River Ave., Holland, MI 49423 or send by e-mail. Call 616-355-1322 with questions, if needed.
The 2017 winners will be announced in early January 2018. An awards ceremony will be held later that month.
