ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) –
An unnamed youngster came away from the Allegan County Fair last month with more than just memories.
The state Department of Health and Human Services announced on Friday that the child tested positive for a H3N2 variant of influenza. While the incubation period for this strain of one to seven days is similar to the most common seasonal flu, there is no vaccine for this variant, and the seasonal inoculation will have no effect on this strain.
No details as to the child’s identity, hometown or current condition were disclosed. Allegan County Health Officer Angelique Jones said in a statement that, although the H3N2 variant has rarely been shown to be spread from person to person, those who may have come down with this illness after attending the fair from September 8th through the 16th should contact a medical provider promptly.
