HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Today is Student Count Day for public schools in Michigan. The official count day will determine the number of students statewide and then budget funding for each district.
Some schools in Michigan are using social media to remind parents the importance of having kids in class today. Proposal A changed the way schools are funded says Holland High Principal Katie Pennington.
” The majority of our funding comes from the first Wednesday in October. It is vitally important that students attend all day today. If they can not attend all day, get them here for whatever portion of the day that you can. We have to give those numbers to the state and that is literally our bread and butter, how we’re funded.”
The fall count represents 90 percent of state funding.
