GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Community Mental Health of Ottawa County is hosting a town hall meeting on addiction.
The meeting will discuss warning signs and trends and will feature several panelists such as Dr. Sandy Dettman, Addiction Medicine Specialist, Judge Craig Bunce from Sobriety Court and even an undercover officer with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Before the town hall, QPR training will be provided. QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. Sarah Pyne is a Registered Nurse and Suicide Preventionist. Along with her husband Michael who is a social worker, they will provide the training.
“QPR are the steps that you take in trying to save somebody’s life. Like CPR, QPR is more for a mental health crisis. It’s a very simple one and a half hour course and it talks on the basic fundamentals of what it is you can do to help somebody. You know you don’t have to be a therapist or counselor. Everybody is capable of trying to save somebody’s life.”
The town hall takes place Monday, October 9 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Grand Haven Community Center. QPR training will be from 5-6 p.m. Call 616-334-8894 to register for the training. The training and town hall are free.
