HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – ArtPrize 9 features some of Holland’s talented artists this year.
Alla Dickson who was the Tulip Time Festival Poster Winner for her piece “Spectacle” in 2016 has once again entered the competition. Alla along with fellow artists from a West Michigan group, called Zeeland Artists Collective. Artists Judi Kruis, Cindy Bender Pamela Weston, Jan Vanderkooi-Mulder, and Ala all worked on the piece called “Tribute to the Red Cross. Connections to Life.”
For Dickson, it’s personal.
“It’s a huge piece. It’s 9′ x 9′ and five of us prepared around 20 pieces so that’s a total of 79 pieces in this installation. Why the Red Cross? My family is a victim of a home fire that happened during Christmas. My families feeling of disaster, grief and loss instantly turned into a celebration of life and community because of The Red Cross.”
When Art Prize 9 is over Dickson says the piece belongs to the Red Cross. They would like to use the piece for their fundraising and conferences, taking it all over the country.
The piece is at the Sundance Grill in downtown Grand Rapids located at 151 Ottawa Avenue and an event on Sunday starting at noon will feature music, food and fun with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross.
A total of 500-thousand dollars will be distributed amongst those who receive awards. Art Prize 9 runs through October 8 and winners will be announced on October 6th.
Alla Dickson has lived in Holland since 1996 but was born in Belarus, has lived in Russia, Siberia, and Egypt.
