HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The next phase in the renovation of the Holland Civic Center should begin tonight.
According to Interim City Manager Greg Robinson, what needed to be torn down in the six decade-old structure is nearly complete and bids received for the remainder of the project have come in about 1.7 million dollars over initial estimates, due largely to mechanical and electrical aspects of the bids, among other factors. He is recommending to City Council members during this evening’s meeting that the low bid should be approved, with various budget adjustments to cover the monetary shortfall, and any unspent funds be put back into the city’s capital improvements fund.
Also tonight, council is asked to approve an amended contract with Edgewater Resources for construction administration services stemming from the Civic Center project, and to formally dissolve a Holland Area Center Joint Building Authority with Holland and Park Townships nearly two decades old when there was talk in the late 1990’s of building a regional facility at the site of what is now DeVos Fieldhouse.
