GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – ArtPrize 9 kicks off today in Grand Rapids.
There are many more large projects this year and art with a message say officials. In the Grand River by the JW Marriott Hotel there is a photograph entry called “Oil+Water” by artist Ryan Spencer Reed. He says the piece is inspired by the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.
“We utilized a whole lot of petroleum based products to try to make a statement about what it would be like to have our precious resource here contaminated with oil”
Over the next three weeks Art Prize 9 will take over the city of Grand Rapids and you can see the art for free and vote by using the free mobile app or online. A total of 500-thousand dollars will be distributed amongst those who receive awards. Art Prize 9 runs September 20 through October 8 and winners will be announced on October 6th.
