HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 23-year old Holland man has died in a personal watercraft accident on Lake Michigan.
According to Sgt. Cal Kuening from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol says the man died after falling from the craft around 3:00 p.m. just north of Tunnel Park in Park Township on Sunday, September 17.
Investigation shows that the man was operating a personal watercraft on Lake Michigan heading south towards the Holland pier head. A witness in the area stated that the man leaned over while on the watercraft and fell off entering the water.
Authorities were dispatched to the scene and found the man 150 yards offshore wearing a personal flotation device and not moving. Marine Deputy Hewett entered the water and rolled over the male subject and swam him to shore to await first responders.
The man whose name has not been released, was transported to Holland Hospital where he later died.
Responding agencies include Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine and Road Patrol, Park Township Fire Department, the City of Holland Fire Department and AMR ambulance.
The incident remains under investigation.
