HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Holland and Grand Rapids residents have joined together to help hurricane victims in Texas and Florida.
Brinks Trucks based in Holland and World Hope International, a Christian relief and development organization, have teamed up to deliver much needed supplies to victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Two of Brink’s semi-trucks were filled with water bladders, food and hygiene kits in Holland and delivered to the Wesleyan Church in Brooksville, Fla. today. These supplies will serve around 200 people for five days.
Right now Brinks and World Hope International are currently loading up another semi-truck to deliver supplies to Harvey victims located in Port Arthur, Texas, which was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Monetary donations are also accepted.
Here is a list of the items needed:
- Sealed baby supplies: diapers/baby wipes, formula/baby food, baby shampoo, powder, lotion, oil, sippy cups, feeding sets
- Sealed toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, hairbrushes/combs/picks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, lotions/creams, cotton balls/swabs, manicure kits, feminine supplies, emergency repair sewing kits
- Sealed basic healthcare supplies: bandaids, ointments, eye drops, knee braces, first aid tape, hand sanitizer/wipes, rubbing alcohol, cold/hot packs, contact lens solution, digital thermometers, ear plugs, reading glasses, glass cases, sunglasses
- Cleaning supplies: scrub brushes, rags, buckets, disposable gloves, bleach, all purpose cleaner, kitchen and bathroom cleaners, disinfectant wipes, dish soap, glass cleaner, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, paper towels, eraser sponges, steel wool soap pads, heavy duty large trash bags, duct tape
- Food: nonperishable items, snack crackers, granola bars, cookies
- Other goods: Batteries (AA, AAA, C, D), paper plates, bowls, cups, plastic silverware
- Sealed clothing: new packages of undergarments and socks, new heavy-soled work shoes
Please avoid donating used clothing, stuffed animals, blankets, medicine, pet supplies, or used appliances and furniture. These types of donations often create more burden for local teams, where cash donations and reliance upon local economies are more efficient for meeting these needs.
You can drop off donations at Brink Truck Lines located at 3905 58th Street in Holland. .Smaller packages can be shipped directly to First Christian Church at 5856 9th Avenue, Port Arthur, TX 77642. Please clearly label the items shipped as “Harvey Relief Supplies” and include a written inventory. They are requesting that items be delivered by September 30, 2017.
Monetary donations are also accepted.
