MIDLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is in the race for governor for 2018.
The Republican from Midland announced his candidacy Tuesday at a barbecue in his hometown. If elected Schuette says he will cut income taxes and push for repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
Recent polls show he is the frontrunner among potential Republican candidates seeking to succeed term-limited Governor Rick Snyder.
Schuette’s announcement come son the heels of Lt. Gov. Brian Calley announcing that he will be holding a series of town hall meetings around the state on the future of Michigan, to inform him as he considers running for governor.
Everyone expected Calley to announce months ago at the Mackinac Policy Conference. Instead, he launched a petition drive to install a part time legislature in Michigan.
Schuette had been acting and fundraising like a candidate for better than a year.
