HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Holland City Council is discussing ways to fund the Civic Center renovation as the project is $2 million over budget.
In a study session Wednesday, council went over the second part of the project which is for completing the building project. Interim City Manager Greg Robinson says those bids came in at $1.7 million plus over the project estimates.
“Primarily in the area that deals with district heating, heating and cooling and mechanical type things. This is somewhat of a unique design for this building and our plans to heat and cool it. So going into the bid process I think there was some uncertainty about how those bids might come out in those areas because it was relatively new.”
Robinson says the challenge with council now is how to address it. He recommends using the Legacy funds to fund a project of this magnitude. Robinson is uncertain on whether there is a delay in the completion date of November 2018.
A vote will take place September 20th. You can hear the full interview from Talk of the Town right here.
