ZEELAND TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A Monday afternoon crash in Zeeland Township sent three people to the hospital.
Sgt. Eric Westveer of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office says deputies were dispatched at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday to the westbound on-ramp to I-196 at the 55 mile marker on Bryon Road.
Westveer says 53-year-old Brenda Lafountain of Otsego was eastbound east on Byron Road in a 2003 Ford F250 preparing to turn right on the I-196 on ramp when a vehicle towing a camper was also trying to turn onto the on ramp. Lafountain stated the camper then continued east on Bryon Road causing her to swerve to avoid a collision.
Lafountain then slid across the on ramp lane and struck the curb causing her truck to go airborne. Her vehicle then struck an embankment on the east side of the on ramp.
Lafountain and her two passengers both of Plainwell, 80-year-old Terry Lafountain and 77-year-old Nancy Lafountain, were injured in the crash. All three were transported by ambulance to Zeeland Community Hospital.
Brenda and Terry Lafountain is listed in stable condition and Nancy Lafountain is in serious condition.
