WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – An effort to stimulate development of “adequately trained technical talent” nationwide is underway.
Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga of Zeeland announced on Tuesday the third-annual Congressional App Challenge for K-through-12 students throughout his district. This was created three years ago to address what is now nearly a quarter of a million unfilled programming jobs in America.
In a statement from his office, Huizenga said that this program will inspire students “to explore and develop new skills by creating and programming apps for smartphones, tablets and computers. With technology playing a larger role in our economy and society than ever before, it is critical that we prepare students with the tools to succeed.”
Open to individual students or in groups of up to four, competition entries will be accepted through noon on November 1st through a special website, a link to which is here.
