DETROIT (WHTC-AM/FM) – The old line traditionally heard in wedding ceremonies – “Speak now, or forever hold your peace” – can be used in regards to the latest attempt to develop land near the mouth of the Kalamazoo River.
Public comment on a planned effort to build 40 home sites and a marina in Saugatuck Township ends today. Cottage Home of Holland is seeking permits from the US Army Corps of Engineers to develop near the site of the ghost town of Singapore, although officials of the developer say that the historic area would remain untouched. Environmentalists claim that the development would adversely affect sensitive dune land. Cottage Home also needs permission from the state DEQ before the project can move forward.
