SPRING LAKE TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Failure to stop at a red light caused a two-vehicle crash in Spring Lake Township Monday.
As the afternoon commute was winding down, deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Savidge Street and North Fruitport Road around 6:20 p.m. Sgt. Jay Douglas says Thomas Meerman was eastbound on Savidge Street in a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer when he failed to stop at a red light.
The other driver Mathew Bracka was southbound on North Fruitport Road turning eastbound in a 2014 Ford Escape when he was struck by Meerman. Bracka’s front seat passenger 56-year-old Mary Vic-Cuison was injured in the crash and treated at the scene by firefighters from Spring Lake Township Fire Rescue and paramedics from North Ottawa Community Hospital. She was then transported to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon in good condition.
Meerman’s three-year-old passenger was in a child restraint seat in the back seat of his vehicle and was not injured in the crash.
Meerman was cited for failure to stop at a red light and alcohol use is not a factor in the crash.
