MUSKEGON, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Not only is the cruise ship the Pearl Mist docked in Muskegon, but so are two historic ship replicas.
The ships are docked in downtown Muskegon at Heritage Landing. Replicas of Christopher Columbus’ Nina and Pinta will be docked through next Tuesday, August 29.
The ships are owned by the The Columbus Foundation and tours will be available from 9-6 p.m. Both ships tour together as a new and enhanced ‘sailing museum’ for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world. Before him, the Old World and the New remained separate and distinct continents and ever since their fates have been bound together for better or for worse.
The ships’ next stop is South Haven, where they will remain docked from August 31st to September 4th. Check out this video of the ships sailing on Lake Erie.
