OLIVE TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A three-vehicle crash in Olive Township injured four people with one in serious condition after a Zeeland man’s brakes went out as he was going through a busy intersection.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched the intersection of Stanton Street and 120th Avenue just after 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, August 22. Sgt. Matt Wilfong says that 30-year-old Anthony Sorenson was west on Stanton Street when the brakes on his 2001 Ford pickup truck went out. As he went through the intersection, he struck a white Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 40-year-old Matthew Gavrilides, of Grand Haven. The impact caused Gavrilides to lose control and spin sideways into the northbound lane of 120th Avenue and then he was hit by a third vehicle driven by 46-year-old Dana Webber, of Grand Rapids.
Webber’s Equinox hit the passenger door of Gavrilides’ vehicle causing his front seat passenger, 37-year-old Heather Gavrilides, to be pinned in the vehicle. She was extricated by Olive Township Fire Rescue and then flown by Aeromed to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids in serious condition.
Matthew Gavrilides along with Dana Webber and his front seat passenger, 46-year-old Susan Webber were transported by AMR ambulance to ambulance to Spectrum Hospital in stable condition. Kayleigh Webber who was a rear-seat passenger in Webber’s vehicle was not injured in the crash.
The intersection was closed for clean up approximately two hours after the crash which remains under investigation.
