Classes are back in session this week for over a hundred schools in Michigan.
Holland Christian had their first days of school on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Black River and Holland Public Schools start their school year today. Most other schools in the area, such as West Ottawa, Zeeland, Hamilton, and Saugatuck, start after the Labor Day Holiday on Tuesday, September 5th.
Superintendent of Holland Public schools, Brian Davis, urges motorists to be aware of students walking to school for the new 2017-2018 year. “Between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., children will be walking to school, so please be mindful of them. That goes for in the afternoon between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. too.” Davis also would like to remind residents to look out for flashing lights on school buses as well as crosswalks.
Lakeshore area colleges have also begun their school years this week, with both Hope College and Grand Valley State University holding their individual New Student Orientations and Opening Convocations this weekend.
