Meatless Monday has become a popular event in households and restaurants all across the country, but for some people, every day is meatless!
Veg Lakeshore is a community organization ran by co-founder Holland residents Rebecca Bochenek and Mary Jackson that has been involved in a number of events to promote plant-based lifestyles along the lakeshore.
Every Monday, they hold a “meatless Monday” potluck at venues in the Holland area such as Westcore Neighborhood Nuestra Casa Gathering House. Each potluck has theme and guests can bring in a vegetarian or vegan dish to pass. The potlucks are great for those who are interested in going meatless, because for some they may not know where to start.
Co-Founder Rebecca Bochenek says that Veg Lakeshore can be a voice for those wanting to navigate all of the different food options in the area…
“We do a couple of events in our homes for potlucks and at restaurants. We do have a Facebook page, Veg Lakeshore, and on Twitter. We also do a grapevine email once or twice a month. We’re just trying to get the word out because Holland is just starting to embrace more vegetarian and vegan things on their menus.”
Veg Lakeshore will be holding their next Meatless Monday event, which is pie-themed, this Monday, Aug 21 at 253 W. 15th St. in Holland. Also next week, Veg lakeshore and Great Legs Winery on East Lakewood Blvd will be teaming up on Saturday, Aug 26 to host an Italian veg potluck and wine tasting. You can rsvp to either event by emailing veglakeshore@gmail.com.
