HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Those in West Michigan hoping to catch a glimpse of Monday’s solar eclipse don’t have to go too far.
On Monday, August 21, the Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association (SAAA) will be on hand at Hemlock Crossing County Park in Ottawa County.
The first contact is at 12:58 p.m. with the maximum eclipse (85 % coverage) at 2:23 p.m. A brief program about solar eclipses will begin at 12:00 p.m.
Senior member of SAAA Peter Burke says they will have safe viewing methods.
“The club actually has a special solar telescope that is built specifically for observing the sun. We use it to look at sunspots. There will be that and that one or two people will be there with safe methods of viewing.”
The event is free. Eclipse glasses will not be sold at the Nature Center.
