HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Joe Haveman is apparently ready to get back into the political waters.
The one-time Holland City Councilman and state House Representative quietly filed paperwork in March to seek the Republican nomination for the seat that state Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof must relinquish at the end of 2018 due to term limits. In a Friday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town,” Haveman said that his current role of Director of Government Relations at Hope Network has given him a new perspective on being a state lawmaker. “What I’ve learned here at Hope Network about mental health issues, and health in general, has been invaluable,” he explained. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and we’ll see what happens.”
MIRS News claimed in June that Daniela Garcia of Holland Township, who filled the state House seat that Haveman vacated in 2014 due to term limits, and fellow Representative Roger Victory of Hudsonville are also vying for the GOP Senate nod, although neither Garcia nor Victory have apparently confirmed this report by the Lansing-based news agency.
