HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The City of Holland has announced the winners in the 4th Annual Blizzards to Blooms – Bring Forth Your Blooms” Garden Contest.
A variety of exceptional residential summer gardens were entered into contest as a part of the City of Holland’s participation in the 2017 Communities in Bloom International Challenge.
The winners were recognized at Holland in Bloom Celebration Dinner sponsored by Chemical Bank and held during the visit to Holland by Communities in Bloom judges Bob Lewis and Bob Ivision on July 24, 25 and 26, 2017.
Signs will be out in front at the following winner’s homes.
Residential Grand Prize – Phil and Gloria Meyer, 66 West 13th Street.
Residential 1st Prize – Michelle Hanneken, 229 West 12th Street.
Residential Special Mention – Connie VanderMeulen, 35 West 38th Street,
Hugh and Paul Wassink, 668 Brookside Ave.
The entries were judged by contest sponsors Dirk Jonker of Jonker’s Garden, Joe and Wanda Miedema of JW Greenhouses, Carolyn Stich of Carolyn Stich Studio, and Holland in Bloom Committee members Steve Zwiep, Parks Supervisor for the City of Holland and Allison Jesky, Hope College Groundskeeper.
The Holland Horticulture Club and the Holland Garden Club was recognized for their considerable efforts to promote beautification efforts, provide education, and encourage community involvement in order to create a unique and outstanding quality of life for Holland residents. Bella Vita Solutions was also acknowledged for the work of their program participants to contribute to beautification efforts at the Cappon House.
Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on enhancing green spaces in communities. The organization also administers the International Challenge.
The National and International results will be announced in Ottawa/Gatineau, National Capital Region from September 13 to 16, 2017 during the Symposium and Awards Ceremonies with the theme of “Communities and Green Spaces …Celebrating Canada’s 150 Anniversary”.
