HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – There may not be a new Sheriff in town but there are two new K9’s.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference on Wednesday, July 26, where they introduced two new K9 members. K9 Kyan and his handler Deputy Jeremy Osbun were on hand as Kyan who was born in the Netherlands, has just completed his in-house training.
Deputy Tony Stariha and his K9 recenty completed five weeks of training at Mid-Michigan K9. As a tribute to Deputy Arlan Gort who lost his life while on duty in 1989, the Department named the K9 “Pappy” which was the slain deputies nickname.
Sheriff Steve Kemper says the K9 is a valuable tool in their day to day operations of providing for safe and secure communities. The K9 are used are used for a variety of tasks, suspect searches and tracking, drug detection, property/article searches, lost person and searches with in schools and the jail for illegal drugs. The K9’s are also very popular with the community at local events.
