ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 24-year-old Hopkins man was hospitalized following a farming accident between Hudsonville and Zeeland on Saturday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Bob Ruster, Jacob Elzinga was loading feed into a silo using a boom from a truck around 2 PM, on farmland off of 56th Avenue near the Riley Street bend north of Chicago Drive, when the boom hit an overhead power line. The high-voltage electricity shot through Elzinga, causing several “severe burn marks.” He was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation.
