HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The last loose ends of the major US-31 expansion and renovation project on Holland’s North Side gets underway today.
Weather permitting, crews will be working on concrete surface coatings on the highway’s bridges over Lakewood Boulevard, the Chesapeake Ohio railroad tracks, the Macatawa River and Chicago Drive. According to Leo Evans of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Muskegon office, which has overseen the entire project that began after the 2016 Tulip Time Festival, “we are expected to be totally wrapped up … on Thursday if we get good weather; if we get any rain, that will be extended.”
There will be single-lane closures on Chicago Drive (Business 196) and Lakewood Boulevard under US-31, along with possible shoulder closures on the trunk road to complete the work.
Evans added that there will be some bump grinding at select locations throughout the project “to improve the ride quality,” which would require single-lane closures on US-31 next Monday and Tuesday during non-peak hours, between 9 AM and 3 PM. A majority of that work would be along the four bridges between 8th and James streets.
