HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A Holland man was struck by a drunk driver early Saturday morning and is still in critical condition at Butterworth Hospital.
In a release from the Holland Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a car/pedestrian crash at the intersection of Homestead and 19th St. The 32-year-old pedestrian was found unconscious in the street with serious injuries. After treating the injuries, paramedics had the victim transported to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He is still listed in critical condition as of today.
While the pedestrian received treatment for his injuries, officers questioned witnesses to the incident and found that a 26-year-old male was the person driving the vehicle involved. The driver initially fled after hitting the pedestrian as he was walking with friends, but parked at his nearby residence and returned to the scene on foot. The driver then proceeded to fight with witnesses who were walking with the victim.
Officers at the scene were able to determine that the driver was intoxicated during the time of the incident. He was arrested at the scene for Operating While Intoxicated and is being held at the Holland Police Department Lock-Up.
