HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – If you haven’t registered to vote and want to cast a ballot in local elections next month, today is your last day.
You need to be registered by the close of business to be eligible to vote on August 8th at SOS offices, City Clerk offices and County Clerk Office. The election will also be the first test of new voting equipment in dozens of Michigan communities.
County Clerk Justin Roebuck says the Verity voting system was selected for purchase because it is secure, accurate and easy to use and it was paid for by a grant with the State of Michigan.
“The machine looks a little different. One of the benefits of this new technology that were dealing with as well is a larger interface. This machine has a larger screen and gives more clear instruction to the voter. Better communication from the machine to the voter.”
Roebuck says voters will see results happen more quickly with results being sent to the counties server via an encripted modem. Real time results in a way they have never seen.
In Ottawa County in November, there are contested races for state representatives, county commissioners, township leaders, as well as ballot proposals for Herrick District Library and a millage for Ottawa County Parks.
