SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – The Saugatuck City Council has a couple of pressing issues to address tonight.
One is involving police services and whether or not the current joint agreement with neighboring Douglas should be maintained, improved upon or abolished. In April, the city had retained the services of Alexander Weiss Consulting to conduct a study into the matter, and a special meeting ahead of this evening’s scheduled business session will go over the results of the firm’s findings. Alexander Weiss is recommending that Saugatuck establish its own Public Safety Department as the best way to address concerns found in the study. No final decision will be made tonight.
During the regular meeting, council is expected to vote on a proposed budget for Fiscal 2018 that calls for 2.5 million dollars in general funding spending, which is slightly less than the projected expenditure for the current fiscal year that ends on Friday.
