HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – National HIV testing Day is Tuesday, June 27 and free walk-in rapid HIV testing will be available in Holland.
The FDA approved test is confidential and only takes 20 minutes for results. Everyone who is tested will receive free packs of condoms and educational materials about sexually transmitted disease prevention and treatment.
Kristina Wieghmunk is Communications Specialist for the Ottawa County Department of Public Health says HIV is overlooked a lot because it’s not a huge problem in the area.
“The STD that we are most concerned about in Ottawa County is chlamydia which is rising. With HIV we have a low case number, but it is still an extremely important topic or STD that we need top be vigilant about preventing.”
The Ottawa County Department of Public Health (OCDPH), will offer the confidential testing at their Holland location between 8:30-4:00 p.m. located at 12251 James Street in Building C. No appointment in necessary.
Other STD services, pelvic and breast exams, birth control and pregnancy testing are available during normal business hours. All services are confidential, and no parental consent is required. Services are offered on a sliding fee scale (based on income) and will not be denied due to inability to pay or a lack of health insurance.
