HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A Holland man ended up on a hospital bed because he apparently didn’t obey the rules of the road that apply not only to motorists, but in his case, to bicyclists.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Eric Westveer, 23-year-old Edward Cardenas was pedaling his bike eastbound on the sidewalk along Riley Street around 8 PM last night when he apparently tried to cross Westshore Drive in Holland Township on a red light. He pedaled into the path of Pamela Kalkman’s northbound SUV that was attempting to turn left, causing a collision.
The unhelmeted Cardenas was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment in fair condition; Kalkman, a 61-year-old Zeeland woman, was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
