HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 19-year-old woman from the Hamilton area who was hit by a car while jogging the night before her sisters graduation has died.
In a Facebook post Thursday evening, Overisel Reformed Church announced her passing.
On the evening of May 24, Julie Genzink was jogging with a friend on 142nd Avenue near 38th Street in Overisel Township, northeast of Hamilton when she was struck. Two eye witnesses had said that the runners appeared to not be looking for approaching traffic before they attempted to cross the roadway.
Genzink had undergone surgery to treat a siignificant head injury at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital after being struck.
According to the Facebook post, funeral arrangements are pending. There will be a prayer service Friday evening, June 2, at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary at Overisel Reformed Church
The unnamed driver of the vehicle was cooperative with deputies at the scene, and although Allegan County Sheriff’s Captain Chris Kuhn said that it didn’t appear that the driver of the vehicle was at fault.
The case will eventually be reviewed by the county prosecutor’s office.
