GEORGETOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – A driver who stole a vehicle in the Grand Rapids area and crashed it in Georgetown Township is in stable condition at Holland Hospital.
Sgt. Cal Kuening of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the Ford Focus was stolen during the day on Wednesday in the Grand Rapids area. Through investigation, the owner told authorities that they were able to locate the vehicle in the parking lot at the Family Fare supermarket in Holland Township on Butternut Drive.
The owner of the vehicle drove with her brother to the parking lot in an attempt to get her car back. While in the Family Fare lot the owner made contact with the driver of the vehicle.
after contact, the driver then backed up quickly and struck the brothers hand. From there the vehicle then jumped a curb and fled the Family Fare parking lot at a high rate of speed. Ottawa County deputies then spotted the vehicle in Georgetown Township and after a short pursuit the Ford Focus crashed near 48th Avenue and Bauer Road.
The driver was taken into custody then transported to Holland Hospital for an evaluation and is in stable condition, Keuning said.
The name of the driver is being withheld at this time pending arraignment on multiple charges
