HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Over 400 interns are working in the Lakeshore region this summer and a free event in Holland Thursday evening will connect them with area professionals.
It’s the Michigan Smart Coast Summer Internship Series Kick Off Event. The purpose of the Michigan Smart Coast Summer Internship Series is to help connect area interns with young professionals and each other, to expose them to the depth of industry that is here and to help them fall in love with West Michigan so they will want to work and live here once they graduate.
Emily Staley of Lakeshore Advantage says they hope to make a connection so that when it comes time graduate they will start their career in West Michigan. They will be able to make connections will different professionals from all walks of life.
“We just really want interns to fall in love with our region and say this is a great place to live and work and I want to come back here when I graduate. Sometimes people might think they need to go to a big city like Chicago, but there is a lot happening here and great opportunities for interns. We’re also handing out 100 Ottawa County Park passes to the first 100 interns who attend so they can really explore our region and all we have to offer outside the workplace.”
The event is from 5-7 p.m. tonight at Boatwerks in Holland. Fun games, food and drinks will be provided,and a chance to win a Visa gift card are all part of the program. You must be present to win.
Several events are planned all Summer including an outing at 5th Third Ballpark with the West Michigan Whitecaps. More information is online.
