HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Many residents wait every year for this weekend in May when they can rid their homes of appliances and electronics at an event held at The Holland Board of Public Works Service Center.
It’s the annual Recycle Rewards appliance and electronics recycling collection event with Holland Board of Public Works (HBPW) and Consumers Energy from 8-12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Customers can drive-thru and drop-off their old, but still-working refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers free of charge. Some may even qualify for a rebate.
Those who drop off still-working freezers and refrigerators will receive a $50 rebate, and those who drop off a working dehumidifier or room air conditioning unit quality for a $15 rebate. There is a maximum of two large units and two small units accepted per customer account, per year.
Partnering with PADNOS for the second consecutive year, customers can also drop off office and household electronics, computer components and accessories, as well as anything that is 50 percent metal or more, including washers, dryers and old strands of incandescent holiday lights. (CRT televisions, LCD flat panels, plasma TVs, LED TVs and wood consoles will not be accepted, nor will alkaline and lithium batteries, ink jet and toner cartridges be accepted.)
HBPW works with PADNOS to ensure metal and plastics are recycled with proper removal of the Freon.
A full list of accepted items is available at padnos.com/recycling-centers or by calling (616) 355-1534. Rebate forms for the appliances will be available the day of the event. HBPW customers who are unable to attend the event may call (616) 551-5933 to schedule a pick-up of full-sized working refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and room sized air conditioners.
