ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – Roads and playgrounds highlight tonight’s Zeeland City Council meeting and work-study agendas.
Council members will be asked to award My-Con Incorporated a 457 thousand-dollar contract to rebuild 101st Street on the south end of town. The work between Huizenga and Lee streets will run from June 12th to August 10th. City Manager Tim Klunder said that the bidding process was “extremely competitive,” and the winning quote was more than a hundred thousand dollars less than the engineer’s estimate.
In addition, Council is expected to approve an amendment to a contract with the state Department of Transportation for the rebuilding of Riley Street from State to Fairview avenues on the north end of town. The change is due to an increase in federal funding to 230 grand for the 380 thousand-dollar project, with the city on the hook for 150 thousand. That work is slated for June 13th through July 29th.
Finally, during the work-study session before the business meeting, Klunder is expected to update Council members on the efforts to replace the Timber Town playground in Huizenga Park. He is hopeful of opening up the bidding process for new equipment by the end of this month, with general contractor work bids beginning on June 19th. A vote on what is projected to be a 600 thousand-dollar project is slated for July 17th, and a crowdfunding effort is being considered.
The Zeeland City Council work-study session is at 5:45 PM, followed by a 7 PM business meeting, at Zeeland City Hall this evening.
