NORTON SHORES, MI (WHTC) – A funeral procession for a Norton Shores Police Officer will stretch five-and-a-half miles on Tuesday.
As the community continues to mourn Officer Jonathan Ginka’s death, many in the community and other police departments have changed their profile picture on social media to honor Ginka.
Visitation for the 34-year-old is Monday, May 15 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at The Lee Chapel at Sytsema Funeral Homes, with his funeral set for 11 a.m. tomorrow at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Laketon Township.
Ginka was killed last week when he crashed his police car into a tree. He will be buried at the Laketon Township Cemetery on Horton Road.
Accident investigators say the cruiser was about a half mile away from the police station on a street with a 35 mph speed limit, when it veered off the pavement without braking and struck a tree.
Officer Ginka was a graduate of the Kalamazoo Valley Police Academy and leaves behind a wife and two children.
