HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – After the Tulip Time Festival, Monday should be somewhat back to normal and that means construction will start up again in Holland.
Leo Evans of The Michigan Department of Transportation says on Monday, May 15th, lane closures will resume along US-31 and Lakewood Boulevard as they work towards completion of the US-31 project between 8th and Quincy in Holland Township.
Here are the following areas where construction will start up:
Lakewood Boulevard:
The two northern lanes of Lakewood Boulevard will be closed on Monday, Map 15th with one lane maintained in each direction on the southern half of the roadway to allow for the completion of the structural steel coating on that structure. The setup will be similar to when the south half was completed prior to Tulip Time. This work is expected to take approximately 1 week to complete.
US-31 Quincy to New Holland:
US-31 will be cold milled and resurfaced from where the paving ended last year north of Quincy to north of Ransom Street where the crossover was in place (approximately ½ mile). This work will require approximately 2 days complete and is currently scheduled for Thursday, May 18th and Friday, May 19th. During this work US-31 will be reduced to 1 lane in each direction. SB lane closures will not begin until after 8 a.m. and NB lane closures will be removed by 3 p.m.
Southbound US-31 @ Macatawa River:
The right lane of southbound US-31 over the Macatawa River will be closed beginning on Monday, May 15th for the commencement of structural steel coating on the structure. This is technically the southbound US-31 on ramp from Lakewood Boulevard which becomes the southbound US-31 exit ramp to Chicago Drive. During the work the southbound US-31 on ramp from Lakewood Boulevard will remain open but will be required to yield and merge with the right lane of southbound US-31. The southbound US-31 exit ramp to Chicago Drive will also remain open for use during this work. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately 2-3 weeks.
