HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – He’s not running for re-election, but you would have thought so as Governor Snyder spoke at the annual Tulip Time Luncheon.
In a positive upbeat speech, the Governor praised the growth in Michigan in manufacturing and construction job. From 2010 to 2016 there were 34,000 jobs created in construction alone.
“That’s the equivalent of the population of Holland. An entire new city created in terms of people working in just six years.”
Snyder says Holland is a leader in the state and said what we are doing in the schools will lead to a bright future.
“Holland Public Schools is starting a program for sixth and seventh graders to learn about STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Math. You’ve got a early college program now here that’s focused on computer programming. You’ve got a great intermediate school that’s got 900 young people learning about career tech education. And that’s an emphasis you’ve heard me talk about over and over again. We have these great tremendous careers in the professional trades that we need to encourage many more to go into. So that growth you’ve heard about in the last sixs years? You’ve been at the forefront of making that happen.”
After the luncheon Snyder donned a traditional Dutch costume and walked in the Volksparade along with LT. Governor Brian Calley and Senator Arlan Meekhof.
