HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The first of three parades will line the streets of downtown Holland on Wednesday, May 10.
The Metal Flow Volksparade is called the “peoples parade” because thousands of locals will be dressed in Dutch costumes with bands, floats and Dutch Dance. The morning starts with a white glove inspection at 10:30 a.m. followed by Dutch Dance at 1 p.m. and then street scrubbing at 1:15 p.m. on 8th Street. The parade starts at 2:00 p.m.
Leading the way in the Metal Flow Volksparade on May 10th will be Elsa Prince Broekhuizen, widow of Prince Corporation founder Edgar Prince, mother of US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince, and a long-time proponent for the historic preservation of the downtown Holland area. She was behind the establishment of the Commons of Evergreen at the site of the former Holland Christian High School, among other achievements.
You can claim your spot starting at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The City of Holland reminds residents and visitors that anything placed before 6 a.m. or left after the parade is over will be removed by city staff.
1450 WHTC will broadcast the all the parades during the 2017 Tulip Time Festival on 1450 WHTC and the new 99.7 FM.
