WAYLAND TWP, MI (WHTC) – The new Gun Lake Casino expansion is now open.
Casino owners opened the doors to the 76-million dollar expansion Wednesday, May 3.
According to a pressrelease, patrons now have access to more games and can enjoy the new Stage 131 Bar and Harvest Buffet. The bar is replacing the original Stage 131, and is almost twice the original stage’s size.
Casino vice president Brent Arena says the expansion also included updates to the establishment’s ventilation systems. The casino will continue expanding the building through the summer months.
The Gun Lake Native American Tribe is heading back to the U.S. Supreme Court over its ownership of land in Allegan County. The tribe owns more than 147 acres of land in Wayland and operates the Gun Lake Casino on that land. Shelbyville resident David Patchak is taking the tribe to court by arguing the Obama-era Gun Lake Trust Land Reaffirmation Act violates the separation of powers put in place by the constitution. The court said yesterday the case would be given “certiorari,” which means it will be heard in the next court term.
This will be the second time Patchak will be heard by the supreme court on this issue.
