HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – If the timing of traffic signals along US-31 in Holland Township seem a little off to motorists along that busy artery in the wake of last year’s modernization, Holland’s municipal utility is aware of it.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Holland Board of Public Works Customer Communications Specialist Ashley Kimble: “Traffic technicians have made multiple visits to the intersections for verifications of equipment in response to these concerns. HBPW has the task of maintenance and repairs to the current traffic configurations designed by the Michigan Department of Transportation, and everything has been verified to MDOT’s design. The traffic operations have changed with new traffic timing, new actuations that include detectors, and pedestrian push buttons, all of which affect the synchronization from intersection to intersection.
“With recent weather conditions changing in favor of pedestrians and bicyclists, we have had a high influx in cross street travels, causing a change in progression that appears to be disruptive to vehicle traffic on US-31.” Kimble continued. “Along with equipment changes, MDOT continues to make adjustments for US-31 corridor signal timing, that last change coming in February, and these altered adjustments may vary from previous traffic patterns or traffic synchs.”
Kimble added that MDOT has appreciated motorists’ feedback on this matter and are aware of the traffic flow since their staffers traverse through US-31 as well.
