HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland Christian Schools and the community is mourning the loss of a 13-year-old student who died the day after she was diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia.
WOOD TV 8 reports Cassandra (Cassie) Delf passed away the day after her parents found out she had a form of leukemia called chronic myeloid.
Cassie is survived by parents: Dale and Vonda Delf of Hamilton; brother Wyatt Delf and sister Regina Delf; grandmother: Vada Owens of Plymouth, IN and numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 100 Peter Drive, Douglas, MI 49406. Father Patrick Collins will be officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck.
Both the Middle and High school at Holland Christian will be closed Wednesday so that students and faculty may attend her funeral.
Cassie who played the clarinet in the school band, will be honored during one of the Tulip Time Parades by the school’s marching band.
This is the 4th death the school has mourned this year alone. Last June, 16-year-old Riley Hoeksema drowned in Lake Michigan after a boating accident. In September a social studies and Bible teacher Kevin Witte was killed in a car crash. The 37-year-old Witte also was a soccer coach. In March fellow student Caroline Kanis died of a brain tumor.
