ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC) – Both of Ottawa County’s institutions of higher education will have new chief academic officers for the upcoming academic year.
Grand Valley State University President Thomas Haas has tabbed Maria Cimitile to be the school’s Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. Currently GVSU’s Associate VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Cimitile’s promotion takes effect on July 1st, upon the retirement of Gayle Davis after 15 years at the post.
Dr. Cimitile came to the Allendale school in 1999 as a philosophy professor and began working in various positions within the provost’s office 10 years later. Dr. Haas will formally present her appointment to the GVSU Board of Trustees at its meeting on Friday.
Earlier this month, Hope College appointed Dr. Cady Short-Thompson as its new Provost, replacing Dr. Karen Nordell Pearson, who handled the position on an interim basis following the resignation of Dr. Richard Ray a year ago.
