JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC) – An 11-year-old girl is expected to recover from what is being called right now an “accidental shooting” in a rural area southeast of Hudsonville on Saturday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jay Douglas, the child was playing in a yard outside of her Angling Road home just south of Jackson Street when she was struck in the upper body by a single bullet. She was taken by family members first to St. Mary’s Hospital and then transported to DeVos Children’s Hospital, where the bullet was found by doctors.
Deputies say that several people had been target shooting in the area near the residence when a round apparently missed the backstop and struck the youth. The weapons used by the target shooters were seized, and all involved have been “cooperative” in the investigation, which remains open.
Tips on this matter to the sheriff’s department or Silent Observer are welcome.
